Recruitment of Law Enforcement Rangers

Rwanda continues to be a regional leader in biodiversity conservation and sustainable natural resource management. Through strong government commitment and active community participation, the country has made significant progress in ecosystem restoration, protection of endangered species, and the promotion of eco-tourism as a key driver of economic growth.

National parks including Volcanoes, Akagera, Gishwati-Mukura, and Nyungwe continue to thrive under effective management and strategic partnerships.

In line with its mandate to safeguard Rwanda's natural heritage, the Rwanda Development Board (RDB), in collaboration with African Parks, invites applications from qualified Rwandan nationals for the position of Law Enforcement Rangers to be deployed across all national parks.

This recruitment aims to strengthen park protection, enhance wildlife security, and support the continued success of Rwanda's conservation efforts.

Job Details

• Position: Law Enforcement Ranger
• Duty Stations: Akagera, Nyungwe, Volcanoes, and Gishwati-Mukura National Parks
• Number of Positions: 96
• Reporting To: Law Enforcement Warden

Purpose of the Position

Reporting to the Law Enforcement Warden, the Ranger will be responsible for conducting field patrols and supporting related activities, including wildlife monitoring, fire management, and overall protection of the park ecosystem.

Duties and Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be expected to:

Conduct patrols in accordance with approved plans and instructions

• Detect, prevent, and report illegal activities within park areas
• Monitor key wildlife species, observe behaviour, and report findings
• Record wildlife observations and signs of illegal activity using GPS equipment
• Support fire prevention and management efforts
• Collaborate with electric fence attendants (applicable to Akagera National Park)
• Participate in human-wildlife conflict mitigation activities
• Contribute to the protection and conservation of the park ecosystem

Required Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

• Minimum qualification of Senior Six (A2) or TVET certification
• Aged between 20 and 28 years
• Background or training in conservation, biodiversity, or related fields is an added advantage

• Strong physical fitness and endurance
• Willingness to work in bush and nature-based environments
• High level of discipline and professionalism
• Ability to work flexible hours, including day and night shifts
• Integrity and good interpersonal skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Effective communication and reporting skills
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
• Willingness to work in remote and isolated areas
• Ability to perform under pressure and beyond standard working hours

Added Advantage

• Experience in the use of GPS devices
• Bush survival skills
  First aid training
  Valid motorcycle driving licence
  Prior experience working with security organs

Language Requirements

• Fluency in Kinyarwanda
• Working knowledge of English or French
