ASA International (Rwanda) Plc (subsequently referred to as “ASA Rwanda”) is a for-profit, deposit taking Microfinance Institution licensed by National Bank of Rwanda and incorporated under The Companies Act, No.103495622 in Rwanda in 2014 and started operations in 2016, currently serving small business in 30 branches across the country. ASA Rwanda is a subsidiary of ASA International listed on London Stock Exchange, one of the world’s largest international Microfinance institutions in the world operating in 13 countries in Africa and Asia.

Objective: Providing Microfinance loans for business purpose to low-income entrepreneurs with an objective of improving financial inclusion and realize socioeconomic progress. Our loans provide an alternative to low-income entrepreneurs without access to credit from traditional banks. We provide these loans using the ASA Model.

Function Summary

The Recovery Officer is responsible for managing the recovery of delinquent loans, minimizing credit risk, and ensuring compliance with the institution’s credit policies. The role focuses on following up with clients in arrears, negotiating repayment plans, recommending legal or alternative measures where necessary, and supporting overall portfolio quality improvement.

Duties andResponsibilities

Loan Recovery & Follow-up

Monitor and track overdue loan accounts on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
Contact clients with delinquent accounts through visits, phone calls, and written communication.
Negotiate repayment schedules with defaulting clients in line with company policies.
Recommend appropriate action for chronic defaulters (legal, collateral liquidation, etc.).

Portfolio Management

Analyze branch or assigned portfolio performance to identify risks and trends in repayment.
Prepare regular recovery reports for management, highlighting risks, progress, and recommendations.
Ensure recovery targets are met while maintaining good client relationships.

Compliance & Documentation

Ensure recovery actions are in line with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records and recovery files.
Support external auditors, regulators, and legal teams with required documentation.

Client Engagement & Education

Educate clients on financial discipline, consequences of default, and benefits of repayment.
Provide feedback to credit teams on lessons learned to strengthen credit assessment and approval processes.

Collaboration

Work closely with branch managers, Loan officers, and legal officer to improve overall loan performance.
Participate in portfolio review meetings and provide recovery insights.

Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
At least 1–3 years of experience in credit recovery, loan management, or collections (preferably in microfinance, banking, or financial services).
Knowledge of credit risk management, debt recovery processes, and microfinance operations.
Strong negotiation, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
Good command of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and core banking systems.
Fluency in English and Kinyarwanda.
Having a valid driving license is an added advantage
willingness to travel frequently for field visits.

An annual festival allowance is provided in form of a full month's gross salary to support employees in celebrating special occasions with their families.
