Since inception, a primary goal of the Farm was to support the local community by creating opportunities for the citizens. It does this through the Sage View Foundation which supports the community through education, savings group and a feeding program for all Sunripe Farms employees.

Position Summary

The Finance & Administration Officer will be responsible for managing Sunripe’s financial health and uninterrupted running of daily operations by ensuring accuracy, accountability, and sustainability. The role covers financial reporting, budgeting, payroll oversight, bank reconciliations, audit preparation, and supporting the farm’s export activities as well as the operations of Sage Community Foundation. The officer will also play a key role in monitoring administrative systems and ensuring effective controls are in place to support Sunripe’s sustainable agriculture and social impact mission. The position will be based in Kigali with regular engagements in Bugesera District, Eastern province.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the annual budget setting process across all operations, working closely with department leaders.
  • Holding budget and team leads accountable for their overall budgets while advising them how to best manage their budget
  • Maintain accurate financial records in QuickBooks, ensuring all entries are timely and correctly classified.
  • Reconcile all bank accounts weekly and monthly and follow up on any discrepancies and errors.
  • Prepare and circulate weekly sales reports, monthly profit & loss statements, income & expenditure reports, and cash flow projections.
  • Monitor cash balances and initiate fund transfers as required.
  • Oversee petty cash management, ensuring monthly reconciliations and proper journal entries.
  • Support annual audit preparation, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and providing necessary documentation.
  • Identifying and analyzing cost drivers and recommending strategies for cost reduction.
  • Conduct variance analysis and provide insights to Management for decision-making.
  • Review and process payroll for both salaried employees and daily laborers, ensuring accuracy and compliance with labor laws.
  • Administer benefits, holiday pay, and bonuses and ensure all approvals are documented.
  • Maintain staff-related records, including airtime allowances, computer and phone logs, and meeting reports.
  • Provide recommendations on compensation adjustments based on performance reviews and benchmarks.
  • Manage export-related accounts and ensure timely reconciliation with agricultural production
  • Track and reconcile invoices and payments for overseas clients, ensuring alignment with agreed terms.
  • Liaise with stakeholders on export-related financial documentation.
  • Oversee financial planning and reporting for Sage Community Foundation.
  • Review and support quarterly budgets for foundation activities and projects.
  • Cross-check school fee payments and maintain supporting documentation (invoices, receipts, class assignments).
  • Track and report on social impact indicators, including number of meals provided and cost per meal.
  • Generate monthly reports on savings groups and other community initiatives.
  • Provide overall coordination of activities in related to administration and logistics.
  • Maintain organized filing systems for finance, HR, and foundation-related documents.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and external reporting obligations.
  • Oversee procurement and asset management by monitoring usage, fuel consumption, and other operational costs.
  • Oversee asset and inventory management, ensuring items are tracked, labeled, and properly maintained.
  • Participate in management meetings and provide financial and administrative input to strategic decisions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • A professional accounting certification or progress towards attaining (CPA, ACCA, or equivalent) is preferred.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in finance and administration roles, preferably in agriculture, agribusiness, or export-oriented companies.
  • Strong technical accounting and financial management skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel) and financial systems.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and reconciliation skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Demonstrated experience in QuickBooks or similar accounting software.
  • Proven experience with audits, payroll administration, and financial reporting.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work across departments and with external partners.
  • Ability to maintain high standards of integrity; establish straightforward, productive relationships; treating individuals with fairness and respect
  • Results-oriented with the ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
  •  A proactive mindset with the ability to anticipate challenges and propose solutions.
